Amirah Garwood is a 15 year old contemporary dancer who resides in St. Peters, Missouri.  Amirah along with 30 other young ladies from across the United States and the Caribbean displayed their talents at the 38th annual Hal Jackson's Talented Teens International Scholarship Competition on Saturday, July 19, 2008 at the Multi Purpose Complex in Tortola, British Virgin Islands.  Miss Garwood’s tremendous dancing ability won her the title of being named the most Talented Teen in the world for 2008.  Her contemporary modern dance was entitled “Endangered Species.”  Amirah’s favorite subject at Central Visual Performing Arts High School are honors Biology, Dance and Spanish because they allow her to be creative yet very structured and all at the same time diverse.  After attending Harvard University with a major in Medicine she intends to become a Veterinarian and a Performing Artist.  Amirah entered Talented Teens because her mother was the Missouri winner in the 1980’s, so she knew it would be a challenge and honor to tread where her mother had trod. Her motto is “What you send into the lives of others will return in yours.”  Amirah has earned a total of $5,250 in scholarships to the college of her choice as the 2008 HJTTI winner and because the other young ladies chose her has Miss Creativity.

 

 

Deondra Gidron is a 15 year old vocalist who resides in Columbia, South Carolina where she attends Richland Northeast High School.  Her favorite subject is math because she is able to relate with the situations and problems.  She looks forward to attending USC at Aiken or Clark University in Georgia where she will major in Medicine.  She would like to become a Pediatrician or a Cosmetologist.  Deondra entered Talented Teens to look forward to great opportunities and she has learned that she can do anything through God who strengthens her.  Her motto:  “Young with a lot of talent.”  Deondra has earned a total of $3,750 in scholarships to the college of her choice for being selected as Miss Personality and earning the highest scores in the Talent Segment.

 

 

Sixteen year old Renisha Bisnath, who is a vocalist, resides in New Grant, Trinidad where she attends Naparina Girl’s High School. Her favorite subject in school is Literature because she has a passion for reading and dramatization so it’s easy for her to empathize with the characters. Renisha would like to attend an Irish University where she will major in Medicine for her ultimate goals of becoming a Doctor of Pediatrics. She entered Talented Teens to make new friends, become more confident and improve her talent as well as explore and expand her versatility.  She has learned how to manage her time and has developed more discipline.  Her motto:  “Seek God first and do your very best for in doing so you would have exceeded your potential, feeling satisfied and confident.”  Renisha has earned a $2,000 scholarship to the college of her choice.

 

 

All the way from Des Moines, Washington is a 16 year old actress whose name is Talitha Fofana.  She attends Federal Way High School where her favorite subject is Technology Ad Writing because it is a powerful tool of communication and allows her to be creative.  After attending UCLA and majoring in Business with a focus on Information Technology, she would like to become a Web Designer of Entertainer.  She has learned to always present her best as if it were her last and to challenge herself. Talitha’s motto: “The only place you find success before work is in the dictionary.”  Talitha has won a $1,000 scholarship to the college of her choice.

 

 

Kayzia Hall is a 15 year old vocalist from Mississauga, Ontario, Canada where she attends Layola Catholic School.  Her favorite subject is English because she enjoys writing, poetry, essays and stories that are interesting to read. She would like to attend Louisiana Tech University and major in Aviation and French in that way she will be prepared to become a Commercial Pilot or Singer.  Kayzia entered Talented Teens for the experience of meeting other people with different cultures and for all of the exposure that comes with it.  Her motto:  “Always be prepared, Go with what you have and Do the best you can.”  Kayzia has learned a $500 scholarship to the college of her choice.

 

 

A dancer, 15 year old Deitra Hunter, who resides in Newark, Delaware, attends Cab Calloway School of the Arts.  Math is her favorite subject because it challenges her mind. After graduating Washington University with a degree in Dance and Psychology, she would like to become a Psychologist or Dancer.  Dietra entered Talented Teens to learn how to become a better teenager and how to compete with others and to show her personality.  She has learned that everything is a struggle, but struggles make you stronger.  Her motto: “God allows you to struggle so that it can make you a better person.”  Dietra has won a $1,000 scholarship to the college of her choice.

Sixteen year old Kirtis Malone is a singer who lives in Paraquita Bay, Tortola, BVI.  She attends Elmore Stout High School where her favorite subject is Science because she enjoys conducting scientific experiments and experiencing first hand the process of life and the concepts that control the environment.  Kirtis would like to attend the University of Texas and major in Education and Music with the goal of becoming a Secondary Educator and a Professional Singer.  She entered Talented Teens so that she would get an opportunity to showcase her talent and also meet new people.  She has learned that hard work and determination are the keys to achieving greatness.  Her motto:  “It is not about who starts the race, but who successfully completes it.”  Kirtis has won a $500 scholarship.

Ferrice Kemp is a 17 year old singer from Nassau, Bahamas where she attends R. M. Bailey Senior High.  Her favorite subject is Performing Arts because she loves music and it is where persons can display their talents like singing, dancing and acting. Upon graduating from the College of the Bahamas with a degree in Biology and Chemistry, she would like to pursue a career as a Forensic Scientist.  Ferrice entered Talented Teens because she wanted to show the world that she is talented.  Her motto is “Stay strong, Aim high, Believe and Achieve.”  Ferrice has won a $500 scholarship to the college of her choice.
