Amirah Garwood is a 15 year old contemporary dancer who resides in St. Peters, Missouri. Amirah
along with 30 other young ladies from across the United States and the Caribbean displayed their talents at the 38th
annual Hal Jackson's Talented Teens International Scholarship Competition on Saturday, July 19, 2008 at the Multi Purpose
Complex in Tortola, British Virgin Islands.
Miss Garwood’s tremendous dancing ability won her the title of being named the most Talented Teen in the world for
2008. Her contemporary modern dance was entitled “Endangered Species.” Amirah’s favorite
subject at Central Visual Performing Arts High School are honors Biology, Dance and Spanish because they allow her to be
creative yet very structured and all at the same time diverse. After attending Harvard University with a major in
Medicine she intends to become a Veterinarian and a Performing Artist. Amirah entered Talented Teens because her
mother was the Missouri winner in the 1980’s, so she knew it would be a challenge and honor to tread where her
mother had trod. Her motto is “What you send into the lives of others will return in yours.” Amirah
has earned a total of $5,250 in scholarships to the college of her choice as the 2008 HJTTI winner and because the other
young ladies chose her has Miss Creativity.
